II hope you didn’t think I was saying that any gifts he gave, or might have given, justified or excused the abuses. Friend, I didn't mean that AT ALL. I am in 100% agreement with you. I do not think the abuses were excusable, or defendable in any way whatsoever. I do not buy for one second that vulnerable people -- or even tough people -- could possibly be relieved of their karmas by being raped and so on. That always rang false to me.
When I was new in Adidam, I asked the teacher of the class I was in, when he was waxing on about crazy wisdom knowing no bounds and so on, if there wasn't SOME LIMIT to what the guru would do. (Little did I know when I innocently asked that question!)
He then told me the story of Franklin turning to a devotee and saying, "Let's go rape a virgin!" and going and finding a 16 year old girl and raping her in front of the other man, then leaving her crying on the floor.
I found this story so disturbing I just didn’t know what to do with it. It sickened me and haunted me. I kept asking about it. This was not wanted, not one bit. First the teacher was relocated to Hawaii as "a discipline" for having told me. The leadership kept passionately denying, then affirming...it was crazy. I was sent to Dell to get set straight. Lots of denial there.
Then --and I had totally forgotten this until I found an old journal in a box the other day -- they managed to track down that raped 16 yr old who was then maybe 32 and they had her come to the danda to explain to me that it had not really been what it had seemed to be. It was all a blessing. Deep profound work. Well, I just couldn’t buy it, even with this woman sitting in front of me so earnestly. (more on this incident from Hatley)
So please don't think I was saying that anything excused this kind of stuff. Even if Adi Da healed 5 billion, it still would not justify his raping one, to me.

I remember that a mom was talked out of pressing charges against Adi Da by one
of his lawyers for having sex with her 15 yr.old daughter. This was a
fatherless child, a perfect victim. She is still with the cult.
There are lots of these incidents in this cult, many perpetrated by his enablers
on young women, some daughters of their own male "friends". It's amazing how
these fathers have become so emasculated as not to protect their own children,
but they are all so brainwashed, or predatory that nothing is ever done. It’s
all very sick and sad.
Some spiritual community! More like a hell realm....
