In 1985-6 there were several lawsuits filed involving Adi Da Samraj (then Da Free John) and Adidam.
There were also a number of other potential lawsuits during the 80's that were
settled out of court which involved more serious allegations against Adi Da than
the lawsuits that actually got filed.
Beverly O'Mahony filed suit against Adi Da and others in March, 1985.
Adidam et al filed an action against dissident ex-members Mark Miller, Heather Lupa, Neil Lupa, Sal
Lucania, Jaclyn Catalfo (previously Estes), and Beverly O'Mahony in April, 1985.
Mark Miller in turn filed a countersuit action against Adi Da and Adidam in May,
1986.
A description of "How Former Devotees Became 'Dissidents' in 1985." Posted by
jewel to the Lightmind Daism Forum in 1999, this selection provides a context
for understanding the blowup of 1985 involving Adi Da and number of former
devotees.
In 1985-6, Adi Da was exposed as fundamentally weak and fearful when faced
with a conflict that did not involve sycophantic followers -- posted to

Satirical response to Daist poster's explanation of "why Adi Da refused to
meet with dissidents in 1985"
Example of how Adi Da blamed the 1985 blowup on his devotees, who sheepishly
accepted responsibility. Poster Bobby looks at a James Steinberg "leela"
(spiritual story) on
this topic.
Description of secret Adidam project to shred and destroy potential evidence

Post describing Beverly O'Mahony's 1985 lawsuit against Adi Da and several of
his devotees.
1985 legal declaration of Andrew Parker, member of the Adidam (then JDC)
Board of Directors, describing Adi Da's financial and management control over
the tax-free non-profit organization as if the money belonged to him personally.
1985 legal declaration of Patricia Masters (previously Padi Duff) describing
Adi Da's abuses relating to his tax-free non-profit entity, as well as the
procurement of luxury items for him and his entourage.
Post by Mark Miller commenting on his 1985 legal action against Adi Da.
Copy of 1986 lawsuit against Adi Da, titled "Mark Miller vs. Franklin
A. Jones." This legal action alleges fraud and deceit,
intentional and negligent misrepresentation, suppression of fact, promise made
without any intention to perform, and negligent infliction of emotional
distress, among other things.
Post describing a case with allegations similar to those in Miller vs. Jones
where the State held that fraud causes of action against gurus can represent a
valid legal approach.
