Adi Da systematically violates boundaries and employs extreme cognitive dissonance … plus, Ken Wilber’s non-committal stance

Posted by Steve Connor on Nov-20-99

Somewhere along the line--way back--Adi Da wrote something about his "experiments" with people.

My guess he just pushed farther and farther--there was probably a time he was amazed at what he could get away with. Now he’s such a master of manipulation, there are no real surprises--he can make people screw in public, stealing wives is a piece of cake, breaking devotees bones is a snap, taking the money of those who love him is routine. What challenges are left? What else do you do with power anyway?

(BTW none of the above is actually contested within the community, it is denied only in the presence of those who are perceived as being not-insiders.)

Individuals within his company that get too healthy are spontaneously ejected, so that keeps the whole gig under control.

The bigger the lie the better the buy. Let the carnival begin, the guru show is in town.

I think Adi Da should get some kind of award. Now presenting--for Excellence in the Category of Extreme Cognitive Dissonance--the Master of the Non-cultic Cult, Bully of lower-case devotees who do not surrender perfectly, the Dissatisfied Satisfied One, The Ever-Fat One, The Burrito Supreme, The Fatness That Is Siddhi-Fat, The Avadhoot of Yoga-Blubber, not mere Human Lard, but Lordly Rotundity Beyond Mere Mortal Tubbiosity, The Large One, The One Who Is Bigger Than You, The One Who Is Alpha Omega, Warp And Woof, Everything Yet At The Same Time Amazingly Represented To You Here In Human Form, He Who Was Born Knowing All But Who Descended Into This Earthly Shit Hole For You (Jesus Christ Why Does That Sound Familiar) The ONLY ONE beyond ALL OTHER ONLY ONES UP TO NOW--Bla bla bla, Mr. Franklin Jones Bubba Adi Da, Etc.

Here to accept the award--as Master Da is unavailable to attend, he is quite occupied with manifesting the appearance of doing nothing in particular whenever he feels like doing it, while Actually and in Truth keeping the earth on its axis FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T DISTRACT HIM --  is one of his most trusted devotees, Ken Wilber.

Why thank you, thank you. However I must say, I am no longer a card carrying devotee of Master Da's, I do respect his Divinely Inspired teachings. In fact, the Da's pages of pompous ponderings have vastly inspired and motivated my own knee breaking poundage of plentiful perplexity.

Adi Da’s Wild and Crazy Play is beyond the ability of the average reader’s ability to comprehend. I must assign this failure of "getting it" to modern man’s inability to respond to such awesome spiritual genius lest I myself look like a real jackass and thus be forced to retract the maddeningly non-committal statements I have in print about Master Da, all of which required lengthy hours of careful word-smithing to result in carefully chosen phrases, having the properly concerned tone, while all along saying nothing whatsoever, at least to anyone who gives a damn.

I shall accept this award in the assurance that I may take credit for any of the good things that Master Da has done without overtly stating or criticizing or specifically pointing out any of the dangerous or negative things. I merely discontinue support, thus keeping my scholarly standing intact. In this way I can contribute to the on-going misunderstanding of spiritual as weak, anemic, and non-committal, and avoid the kind of hearty challenges required to inspire the growth of actual culture-wide realization.

I accept this award in the Spirit of Da, in the Spirit of Hiding in the Great Seclusion of Me, In Avoidance, In Pointing to This Not That, In the Pages Of Great Big Books.

Uh… come to think of it, I cannot attend. Can I send my agent to accept the award?
