Do you remember the lila (spiritual story) about Groot? That he accidentally cut himself putting his hand through a window, drunk, and how compassionate his guru was? Well, all that was a lie. He cut his wrist alright. But he did it himself trying to commit suicide after Adi Da fucked his woman and she was not so happy.  He tried to commit suicide because his guru betrayed him so profoundly. But Adi Da's persuasiveness and peer pressure and invocation of Milarepa and the power of cognitive dissonance are powerful. He left the island but found a way to think that he was still a devotee. He had to. He had really and truly made a vow to Adi Da. He meant it absolutely, to the end of eternity.

It is common knowledge that Adi Da has had sex with scores of women who were married to, or in serious relationships with male devotees of Adi Da.  No doubt he wanted the sex, but he also was establishing his dominance over the men, and putting them in their place.  He would always tell people this was a test of their commitment to spiritual practice -- if they were willing to let their "cultic" attachments to their wife stand in the way of God Realization they were not serious practitioners.
