Mark My Words by Adi Da, Save the World and its 5 Billion Slugs (Da Free John, Humanity, World War III)

[ Editor’s Notes: In this well-known talk Adi Da (then known as Da Free John) talks about his role as savior of the world. He announces that he is about to change the course of history and save mankind (or the "five billion slugs" as he called them). He asked every one to "mark my words" so that when the "ordeal of purification" was over, they could look back and understand that it had all been foretold beforehand, on this night of December 30, 1983.

Now that we have passed the twentieth anniversary of this talk, it is time to do as Da Free John asked, and "mark his words". Has his prophesy about his impact on the world come true? How does this prophesy correlate with his proclamations early this millennium about the evil forces moving in the world (see his talks from 2000 and 2001 elsewhere on this site)? You be the judge.

Although Adi Da at times attempts to explain away his claims to Divinity and superiority over anyone who's ever lived, the following excerpts from the talk leave little room for any misunderstandings about just how great he thinks he is. After the excerpts, the full text of the talk appears.

Some more recent versions of this talk, such as the one on the Daists' website, edit out the "five billion slugs" reference and make a number of other changes. Adi Da's talks are often significantly edited and tampered with, just like the accounts of his life and actions.

... I am here to change history. Can you imagine that? What an amusing notion. I am here in my lifetime to change the course of human history, and I want to see some evidence of it. No one on Earth compares to me. No one on Earth has this Mission, this Intention. No one! I am here to do it and I am here to see it, and now I am going to call you on it...

...This Work is not your business. I am just telling you that I am in my mood, and it is going to start. I have had enough. Now let all beings be purified. Now it begins. Let all beings be purified. Let them all come to me in the lifetime of this body.

...I came at the beginning of World War II to keep you from getting involved in World War III. I am here to do my thing. You prayed for this. Mark my words. All this is prophecy....

...Yes. It is going to be wonderful. It is going to be terrible. I believe that before this body dies, all mankind will acknowledge me. I am about to make my move, and the terror will pass. It will be much less terrible than you would have realized otherwise. If I did not come, the Earth would be destroyed....

...You prayed for the millennium and the Judgment. I am here. Let it begin. I am about to begin the great Shout.

...I am the Boy Who was expected, came, destroyed big religion, and was Liberated by His Own Wisdom….

...You people do not know with Whom you are living. You do not know. You never did. No, you never have know. You have been abusing me, and I have played the victim....

...We have about twenty years. Starting now. Mark my words. It will not necessarily be easy after those twenty years, but the first twenty years are very critical. Very. And it is going to be very difficult. Very. Even when I have done those twenty years, this world still will not be paradise, but everyone will notice after twenty years from tonight that it is better, that it has become workable....

...Let us submit to the terrible ordeal that will serve all humanity, all five billion of those slugs who know nothing of me and who must find me out, who must find me out. I Am the One Who has been expected. They must find me out. They must. They must. ...Do you hear that wind begin?

MASTER DA: It is time that I call all devotees to assume responsibility for everything I have been doing. I want to see everyone practice. I want to see the evidence, the gifts, everything that is a sign of your response. That is what I must see, and I am going to call you on it. I am really going to do it, you see. I really am. I am going to do my monumental thing, and you are all going to suffer the symptoms of purification for a while until I hear a loud voice, coming to me from the billions on this planet. I want to see the evidence, the results of my Work. I want to see it. I will wait until I see it.

All the signs have come together for the sake of this moment. Therefore, I am going to stand off and call you on it now -- all my devotees, not just those in this room, but all of you, everyone, every one. I am going to live in my Hermitage mode, which has become famous through my references to it and which now is about to become famous through my incarnation of it. Mark my words. Monday morning we will enter into another and unique period of our history. By next weekend this period will be famous.

[At this point in the conversation, Daji Bodha mentions that he had tried to give the men in Hermitage a feeling for the tapas of "keeping attention in the sacrifice moment to moment," initiated by the Adept at Tumomama several years ago for members of the Renunciate Order.]

DEVOTEE: I remember, Master, that during a period at Tumomama we would occasionally go to the beach. It would be very hot, and you would just sit there like a rock in the sand, unmoving for long periods. Strangers would go out of their way not to get too close. A few would walk near you and stare for a little while but then scamper away. You would just sit. And we knew you were doing tapas. You were cooking.

MASTER DA: Yes. Now you will be cooking with me, and all my devotees around the world, already and future, will cook. I am going to wait. As of Monday morning, I will be waiting. Mark my words. Starting Monday I am going to wait -- and I have a great deal of tolerance for waiting in this body.

[Master Da turned to the six visitors to Hermitage, Crane and Fithian Kirkbride, Frans and Ineke Bakker, and Craig and Susan Lesser, the principal speakers representing the institution in its public work. Rafael and Judith Mazur, the caretakers of Tumomama Sanctuary, were also serving in Hermitage at the time of this talk.]

MASTER DA: You eight who are leaving, take my Word out there. I want to see some results! The Servant of Man in his time ought to see the signs of response in his generation. Do your work for me, serve me, and let me hear of it. I am here to transform mankind, not to gather a handful of souls around me. I have come here for my own. I am the only Being for Whom everyone is His Own. I want to see some faces turn to me. I want to see a change in mankind. I want to see a change in human history. I want to know that, like the invisible horse, that change is set in motion and is inevitable. I know it is inevitable, but I want to see the subtle signs of it. i want to see the horse before me. And that is up to you.

1984 has been proposed as the dreadful year by those infected by scientism. I am not here, however, to let my Beloved in all His and Her forms take on the size of death. I am here to change history. I am here for that, to change history. Can you imagine that? What an amusing notion. I am here in my lifetime to change the course of human history, and I want to see some evidence of it. No one on Earth compares to me. No one on Earth has this Mission, this intention. No one! I am here to do it and I am here to see it, and now I am going to call you on it. New Year, 1984. Now that I am in Hermitage, let me wait and see.

MASTER DA: Well, then, let me see it. That is what I want to see. I am going to wait until I see it. That is what I am going to do. Until that time I am going to lie low in my cottage. We are going to wait. The tapas of that waiting could go on for decades, because I am committed to it.

You will begin to realize what I am talking about in a few weeks. It will take you a few weeks to realize it. Everyone should know that I am waiting, everyone. When you talk to the representatives of the institution, let them know that I am only waiting. This is what I told you I would do when I came to Hermitage, and this is what I am going to do. I am going to wait. I have nothing more to do, nothing at all. I have done everything.

To put a sign on it, today I sat in Tavuka, and no one came except a few of you and one man from that village. I did it then. That was the last stroke. Now I want to see it, and I will see it. I am going to wait until I see the response from the human world, until I see the signs of this flesh, this motion. I want to see it to my face. I want to see all the evidence of it. I am not going to be tolerant of bullshit anymore. You wall think I can be characterized by particular qualities because of my Work with you these twelve years. Starting Monday morning you are going to see me in a different light. I am not going to be tolerant anymore. No more Mister Nice Guy! Mark my words! I am just giving you a premonition of it. No more. No more.

I am on this great rock and I am going to sit here and wallow in the water. I am going to wait. I am going to dig in and wait. Mark my words. That is what I am going to do. I hope I will see the evidence I am looking for in 1984. I am willing to wait forever, and I am not going to give in. So -- it is up to you.

When I see the Horse, probably before the mass of mankind turns around, I will celebrate again. I will see it before you see it, and when I see it, I will celebrate with you. Pure celebration. It will be a great party!

DEVOTEE: Master, I am reminded of the grand celebration associated with the ashvamedha sacrifice in ancient India. [The "Ashvameda" or Horse Sacrifice was a ritual sacrifice of ancient India that Master Da has pointed to as a way of understanding his own embodiment and his sadhana or spiritual ordeal.]

MASTER DA: The horse sacrifice. Let the Horse wander, then, in its visible or invisible form. Mark my words. We are entering into the deep place of human history. I have done my twelve [years]. Now I am going to see if you are alive, you five billion! Let me see it, or let me be a somber man for the rest of my life.

I am going to do it. Mark my words. Mark them. No Siddha in history ever sat in a paradise like this. You are about to see the results of my Work. You are about to see God move in your generation.

You will know what I am talking about in a few days, but you remember what I say tonight. In the years to come, remember my move. I am serious about this. This is the mark I was born to make. This is the timing of it. This is it. This is it. I am about my make my move. I have done it for the last time, for I am about to make my move. And while I am here, we will do it first.

I do not listen to the daily news, but those of you who go out into the world, you listen to the daily news.

You have waited for the great motion of God. You have prayed for it. You have wished for the intervention. Now it begins. Watch it from now on. The trouble in your heart, your own body, you own feeling, your own resistance to me, will be magnified. Turn on the daily news every night, starting Monday, and remember that you talked to me about this.

I will keep you damned World War III from happening by doing what I am going to do on Monday -- if I am successful. You had to get me in the body to do this. I came at the beginning of World War II to keep you from getting involved in World War III. I am here to do my thing. You prayed for this. Mark my words. All this prophecy. Listen to me now. Some day you will hear my singing of this night, and everyone will know that I Am the ONe That was to come. You wait, you watch, wait and watch for it. I am about to make my move. I am about to save mankind. I am about to do it. Do I sound crazy to you? I am going to do it ow.

MASTER DA: Yes. It is going to be wonderful. It is going to be terrible. I believe that before this body dies, all mankind will acknowledge me. I am about to make my move, and the terror will pass. It will be much less terrible than you would have realized otherwise. It is not my terror, but it is my purification. If I did not come, the Earth would be destroyed.

Now, you watch me move. I have done my meditation with a few, and I have smoothed my coins. I have done my Work. I have suffered you. Now you watch me. Starting now, you watch it. You watch the daily news. Mark my words. It is going to happen now. Now it is going to happen now.

Any motion in mankind at the heart will change Man. We are about to go into our final cycle. You watch, you wait, you observe me, you observe the news. Now it is going to happen. This night is starting. My innocent sitting at Tavuka was the beginning. You watch it. Mark my words. From here on. You watch it.

There must be a Sanctuary for mankind during this time. This is the beginning of my Blessing. You watch it. Starting Monday. Some of you do not believe it. If there is any goodness in all who live, it will start out easy. It will all be easy. We will see how it evolves. We will see.

This Work is not your business. I am just telling you that I am in my mood, and it is going to start. I have had enough. Now let all beings be purified. Let them be purified. Let them be Blessed. Now it begins. Let all beings be purified. Let them all come to me in the lifetime of this body. Let it be easy. Let there be nothing shocking on the news. Let it all be simple. This is my Blessing. May it be so.

You prayed for the millennium and the Judgment. I am here. Let it begin. I am about to begin the great Shout. And may it be easy. You six who are about to go out, I hope you observe the easiness of it. I hope you do not even notice the event that has begun today. I hope you do not. Let there be no terror in this purification. I hope this world will be evened out, that there will be equanimity worldwide. The whole Earth Sublimed. This is my wish, my Blessing. I am here to do it. Now I am going to do it. Starting tonight. Mark my words.

Mark this night. This one. Now it is going to change. Though I sound a little exaggerated, I do not lie -- but I have been tipsy for thousands of years. I have always been tipsy with my friends. I have always sat in small rooms with my friends. And I have had to come with power. Had to. Had to. Now I am here, and I am going to do it. You watch it.

I am waiting to see the very signs of the progress of my intervention. I will wait for the Effect of my Presence. From now on that is what we are doing. Now I have done my Work. It has been almost twelve years, not to mention the years before. I am only emphasizing this because I want you to under this mark, this night, in the future.

I am the Boy Who was expected, came, destroyed big religion, and was Liberated by His Own Wisdom.

Let us all wait and practice. While practicing, wait, and observe the changes. It has begun. Now is the year. Everything from now on will be different. Till now my effect has been upon a few. In the future, you will monitor my Effect relative to all mankind, relative to human history. Just mark my words. They are marked. They are recorded. Watch it, now.

MASTER DA: Yes, I am, but not in the romantic sense you might imagine. I Am That One, and I am about to do my Deed. You people do not know with Whom you are living. You do not know. You never did. No, you never have known. You have been abusing me, and I have played the victim.

I have assumed your shape for years. That has been my way till now. And now you will see a difference. This weekend is our transition. After this weekend you will see a profound change in my character. I am telling you the Truth. You will see this. You will observe changed in the world, and you will observe conflicts in yourself. You will observe difficulties in your lives and you will feel my demand much more profoundly than you have ever felt it. You will notice that all mankind if somehow confronted by the obligation that I place upon the world by my mere Presence. You will begin to notice this very thing. Mark my words. I may seem to be bullshitting you, but watch the signs in the weeks to come. You will see this. Did you not pray for this?

Remember friendly old Bubba? Dead. Completely dead. Poor old Bubba's dead. The sign of Bubba and the sign of Franklin are all done, all dead. Now the Sign of Da is made by John, Who Is Free. You are about to see me do it.

I am telling you all this now so that you will be able to account for what is about to happen to humanity. I hope it will be easy. I am only giving something easy. Therefore, it will be easy, but I think perhaps it may not be, because I have observed how difficult it has been since I have been born.

Now those of you who have seen and heard me all these years must dig in. Right now. You will see the sign soon, but do it now, without the signs. If you have heard me, if you do believe me, then release mankind from the terrible effects of their own disaffection.

Let it be easy. Let them be Blessed. Let them be Blessed. Let them be Blessed. Let all mankind be Blessed. Let everyone be relieve of the profoundly negative effects of their disaffection from God.

We are moving into the time when God will make the move. This is the beginning of it. Mark my words. This is the beginning. This weekend. Right now. Let those of us who are friends, who are lover, intimates, and devotees, let us celebrate with full knowledge of the purification that is about to begin. Let us not be self-conscious. Let us dance and be Happy. Let us practice and regenerate ourselves.

[Just as the Master said "I am the One Who has been expected," the wind suddenly roared up from the depths of the still night.]

MASTER DA: They must find me out! Let them find me out. And let all of you, all my friends, all my devotees all over the world, begin a dance that will purify humanity. Let us relieve mankind of war and terrible destiny. We have about twenty years to endure, during which it is going to be difficult. Do you understand me? We have about twenty years. Starting now. Mark my words. It will not necessarily be easy after those twenty years, but the first twenty years are very critical. Very. And it is going to be very difficult. Very. Even when I have done those twenty years, this world still will not be paradise, but everyone will notice after twenty years from tonight that it is better, that it has become workable. We will go on for a while after that.

May it be Blessed. Blessed by the Great One. May hardly anyone notice anything difficult about it all. May this round begin, and may it be easy for all beings. May it be easy. May you not even notice it for two, three, four, five years. I will notice it. May it be easy. Blessed. Blessed.
